Who knows whether it was coincidence or fate or something in between, but ever since Lukas and Jonathan of Kommerz Records approached Darmstadt fusion jazz outfit Triorität to re-imagine midi genius Noa Erni’s fusion jazz/hip-hop debut album “The Mental Traveller” a whole bouquet of new friendships blossomed. One of these transcendental links was formed by Noa Erni, Swiss producer and wine merchant in Berlin, and Grégoire Pignède, bassist of Triorität, Theodor and Rainald Brederling Quintett as well as frequent Knowsum collaborator. Their new cult is all about “Healthy Habits”.

Even before the “The Mental Traveller – Triorität Session” was recorded and the two met in person, their initiation was a phone call, which happened to go over hours. Besides a fascination for weird memes and word play, the two found out about their shared passion for well played psychedelic jazz.

Noa Erni started sending over some of his spacier beats, while Grégoire Pignède answered with bass lines. On “Om Drip”, an ecstatic uptempo groove with weirded out sound samples, Noa recklessly chopped, stacked and rearranged Grégoire’s recordings. In contrast, the virtuous, but a bit smoother bass line of “Fish Tacos” was recorded in one piece and accompanies Noa’s fun drum and synth programming perfectly.

The two tracks were mixed and mastered by S. Fidelity and the visual universe of “Healthy Habits” was created by photographer Ronja Kappl, who was assisted by Grégoire’s Ouvo co-founder DJ Ion and Noa’s Kommerz label co-boss Jonathan on iPhone and VHS cam.
